Drinking in the AM vs. Drinking in the PM

Updated: Jul 30

It's was like having two people living inside of me.

When I was drinking daily I couldn't figure out how it could be that when I woke up in the morning there was no urge to drink, yet when dinner time rolled around all those promises that I made in the morning simply disappeared and I was drinking while cooking dinner once again

We make over 60,000 decisions a day.

No wonder we are exhausted by 4:00pm or sooner.

Some of those decisions are positive and joyful. While some are just rote, mundane and exhausting.

We don't even pay attention to half of them because we live our lives on auto pilot.

We don't take the time to notice the thoughts that don't serve us. The sneaky ones that wear us down. Some of mine sounded like this:

  • I better put on more make up today because I look tired and worn out.

  • When did all of those wrinkles on my neck show up?

  • I hate the way I look the day after drinking.

  • I'd catch a reflection of myself and think, my stomach used to be so much flatter.

  • I wish someone else would go to the grocery store for me.

  • I do the same thing everyday.

  • Should I drive farther and go to Costco or skip it and just go to the grocery store?

  • Should I drink tonight or start tomorrow because I really am bored and tired?

All of these thoughts would slip right through me and I wouldn't realize that most of them were damaging. I would feel spent by 3 or 4 in the afternoon and start looking for some relief and begin to consider that it is ok that I need a drink to "feel better".

Before I knew it, I'd wake up in the morning making the same old promises to myself.

How do we end this?

Simple: The most tedious thing that we don't want to do is the ONE thing that will make ALL of the difference in our lives.
